Update #8: Occultism, Asset Development, and Bug Fixing

Welcome to Shanty’s eight progress update. This month’s update(s) will be primarily focused on plans for our brand new skill, a plethora of bug fixes, a new initiative to showcase notable assets, and quality of life adjustments! Furthermore, we have information relating to the the development team and project lead changes.

First of all, our beloved Arham has decided to step back from the project lead due to real life committments, and has now passed the mantle over to Sin who is now Shanty’s project lead. There has been a huge burst of activity over the month of April in which has resulted in more development overall in progress.

Shanty has begun its first internal testing phase in which has successfully resulted in a lot of positive feedback for the current content Shanty has to offer, the main direction is to polish and perfect the existing content before moving on to other things. This also leads us on to… recruiting internal testers! Well, just one or two. Shanty already has a successful QA team however we feel that adding two more dedicated and passionate members to the team would be beneficial.

If you have relative QA experience in testing games and servers, this position would be suitable for you - please message any team member with the following format:

Verdant Domains Map

Verdant Domains

The Verdant Domains on Shanty Island are teeming with lush greenery and a diverse population. Despite its natural beauty, conflicts are common in this region, as is the case wherever humans coexist.

As of the beginning of the game, it has been 18 years since a pirate ship crashed on the northern beach of the Verdant Domains, leaving behind a peculiar crew of humans and dwarves. The pirates mercilessly attacked their captives, but halted their pursuit when they witnessed a miraculous event—an uprising of the earth that allowed the escapees to flee towards the desert.

Present-day Shanty remains under the control of the pirates, with their stronghold known as Shanty City continuously growing stronger. They established connections with the mainland through bribes to a Menaphite crew, attracting merchants and mercenaries to the city alongside the pirates themselves. Throughout the region, players will discover various points of interest such as the city, dungeons, and training nodes, all of which play a vital role in their adventure in Shanty.

Update #6: Premium stock, the recycling bag, and Bezalis Desert

Accessing the General Store in Shanty RSPS

The shop system in Shanty

For a while now, ensuring that Shanty will feature a tight and well-paced economy has been a subject of concern to us. Although the project is a ways off from release, it’s still come far enough from where it started that these surface-level gameplay matters are becoming a slightly more pressing concern than before.

In our resolve to work on this matter, we have decided to address the subject of shops to change the way they will affect Shanty’s economy compared to your usual “economy” server. Thus we’ve devised the addition of premium stock, a measure that will bring about the separation of shops’ contents into two assortments: The traditional Global stock, and the new Premium stock.

Update #5: The Wilderness Realm and the Duel Realm

Hey everyone! It’s been a while but rest assured that development has in fact been moving forward. We have attained a pace where our update blogs can continue to be posted on a monthly basis, so that we won’t have you guys waiting around for too long (hopefully!). With that said, let’s get to this month’s update.

Wilderness Realm

For a while now, a decent amount of our efforts have gone into pushing the Wilderness closer and closer to completion. For starters, we have finally addressed the one major predicament that Shanty has faced in this regards due to the project’s nature.

The fact that Shanty takes place in a new overworld away from the Gielinor mainland has long begged the question: What should be done about the Wilderness? The solution we ultimately committed to is that the Wilderness of Shanty exists as its own landmass, sitting somewhere in the high seas, somewhere in the far reaches of another realm. Because of this, the Wilderness cannot be reached by foot, instead requiring the use of corrupted fairy rings located throughout Shanty Island.

Beyond the location and means of access, not much is changed about the gameplay of the Wilderness. As a result of it no longer being attached to the Gielinor mainland, though, a decent amount of work had to go into adjusting the western and southern edges of the landmass. Huge shouts to its.teewhy for that!

Update #4: Village of Shadows, Slayer Tower, Barrows, Duel Arena, and the Kalphite Queen

The Village of Shadows in Shanty RSPS

Village of Shadows

The outcasts of a civilization tend to often have sorrowful histories… and none more so in Shanty Island than that of the dwarves. When the initial inhabitants of Shanty Island came, dwarves accompanied them. Due to the unequal dynamics of power and discrimination, many dwarves were forced to live in the Village of Shadows, located in the Thyrsus Mire.

Living here comes with a cruel curse. What’s the curse? The curse is that the inhabitants can’t stand sunlight.

We’ve spent a couple of months working on this village. Over 50 custom models were made for NPCs, objects, and items just for this village. Each NPC carefully had their dialogue crafted; each object had much thought put into it; and each item had fashionscape kept in mind. We really hope you guys like how it turned out. Also, a special shoutout to Maximax for a lot of the exhaustive planning that went into all of this.

Update #3: Fishing Haven, Woodcutting Haven, more work on GWD, and some QoL improvements

Skilling Havens

Skilling havens in Shanty serve as the central place for players to be able to train respective skills and gather resources for it. We have some scarcity present in the higher level resources in light of our planned additions to the Wilderness. However, we don’t plan on necessarily limiting things to the Wilderness, doing so will surely have benefits for players. We’ll expand on this aspect in the future.

Update #2: Vorkath, Demonic Gorillas, many more Slayer monsters, and God Wars Bosses

For the past month, we’ve been focusing on polishing our server. This includes features like doors, ladders, rewriting consumables for proper combo-eating, adding support for venom, stamina potions, and putting more emphasis on in-game sound effects to existing content.

Another focus of ours during this time has been adding life to our island. We have started writing some lore pertaining Shanty Island for us to be able to ensure the world is one coherent entity.

Finally, our focus content-wise has been on Slayer. Here’s what we’ve been working on.

Update #1: The Abattoir, the Warriors' Guild, and the Abyssal Sire

The Abattoir fighting area

The Abattoir

The Abattoir, also known as the slaughterhouse, hosts the monsters that are invading Shanty Island and have not settled on our lands. From a RuneScape player’s perspective, these monsters are the “useless” monsters. That is, it hosts Slayer monsters that are not likely to be killed outside of a Slayer task. This area serves as a means for the player to be able to find these tasks in an easier-to-find, central location.

Outside, the dungeon to kill NPCs, there hosts a conflict between Guards and various invading NPCs.

We will explore on how to expand the Abattoir’s functions. Please let us know if you have any ideas!
